Term 2, week 4 2025
Dear Parents and Caregivers
It’s great to be back at Christ the King School and see everybody again. I was lucky enough to travel to Europe as part of my Long Service Leave. We saw some amazing sights and had a chance to be immersed in new cultures. It was a great trip. I thank Jo Livingstone and all the CTK staff for their work in my absence.
Confirmation Ceremony
Congratulations to our Yr. 5 students who celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation last Thursday 15 May at St Joseph’s Church, Brighton. Thanks to Annette Denton for coordinating the workshops and ceremony and thank you to our parents for supporting these students on their faith journey.

Celebrating the Easter Season
As we approach our 6th Sunday of Easter, the Gospel reminds us of Jesus' promise:
“If anyone loves me, they will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them” (John 14:23).
This beautiful promise reminds us that when we live with love, kindness, and faith, we welcome God into our hearts and homes. At school and in our families, we are part of God's family.
Jesus gave us peace, love, and the Holy Spirit to share with others. We are called to care for one another and live in a way that shows God's love to the world.
Recognising the Ordination of Pope Leo XIV
This week, we acknowledge the ordination of Pope Leo XIV, giving thanks for his commitment to serving the Church and its people. As the newest successor to St Peter, Pope Leo XIV steps into a role of great responsibility, guiding the global Catholic community with faith, wisdom, and compassion.
As a school community, we pray for Pope Leo XIV as he begins his papal ministry. May the Holy Spirit strengthen and inspire him as he leads with humility and hope.
Congratulations to Our Confirmation Students
Congratulations to Charlotte C, Airlie C, Xhantara F, Alessia M and Sienna S who recently made their Sacrament of Confirmation at St Josephs, Brighton. A big thank you to Bishop Greg.
This is a very special milestone in their faith journey. May they continue to grow in faith, love, and courage as they follow Jesus each day.
National Reconciliation Week 2025
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared history and to strengthen respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider community. From 27th May to 3rd June, we acknowledge the journey toward justice and healing. This week is an opportunity to live out our faith by promoting dignity, compassion, and solidarity with First Nations peoples. As followers of Jesus, we are called to walk together in truth and love, working towards reconciliation and a more just and inclusive society for all.

Year 6 Teacher and Acting REC (Religious Education Coordinator)
A huge thank you to everyone who supported Caritas Project Compassion 2025
This year, Christ the King raised an amazing $864.80, that's THREE times more than what we raised last year! What an incredible effort from our community.
Well done, everyone!
Reception student, Vikram, answered the Marion Council’s call for sharing tips to help people do the right thing by recycling green waste for a more sustainable environment. Vikram’s ideas were selected and feature tips on how he and his family tackle the disposal of food waste.
His no.1 tip is to use visual cues to make it easier for everyone to get involved. There might be a few ideas that you could use at home!
Suggestions like having posters in parks, homes, schools etc with information and pictures on what can be placed in the green bin to make it easier to educate the community. Also placing bins in areas that are easily accessible and visible to everyone so that others would be encouraged to be more involved in the recycling activity.
From educating each other through interactive art, to using compost in the garden, recycling food scraps can be fun for the whole family.
You can watch Vikram’s video on the Council’s facebook page via the following link:

Congratulations Vikram! An amazing achievement!
Year 6 students had an exciting opportunity to visit the Space School at Hamilton Secondary College for a unique and immersive space experience. During the excursion, students engaged in a hands-on simulation where they role-played real-world space scenarios. Working in teams, they alternated between acting as astronauts - dressed in full space suits and collecting samples on a simulated Martian surface - and as scientists in Mission Control, monitoring data and solving complex problems. The activity closely mirrored the procedures used by NASA when sending space probes to explore craters and collect samples on Mars, providing an authentic insight into space exploration.

Six of our students recently represented Christ the King School at the South West / Airport SAPSASA Cross Country trials held at West Beach. After a chilly start to the morning, the sun soon warmed everyone up.
Congratulation to Isla, Chloe, Lachlan, Nyle and Mitchell, on amazing performances. Although our runners didn’t make the team, they all gave it their best. Well Done!
As part of their Maths learning on symmetry, Miss K's Year 4 students joined with Miss Pynor's Year 1/2 class for a creative and collaborative buddy activity. Each student was given half of their buddy’s face and had to complete the missing side. Students had to carefully observe features such as eyes, hair, and facial expressions to make the drawing symmetrical. It was a fun and engaging way to explore symmetry while building positive relationships.

Enthusiastic Year 1 and 2 students from Ms Winter's class were busy exploring the concept of capacity right here in our playground! Armed with spoons, jugs, and a variety of containers, they eagerly measured and made comparisons. It was wonderful to hear them discussing their findings. What a great example of practical, engaging learning in action!
Maths is all around us and parents can also provide great support.
*Create some patterns at home with blocks or toys.
*Bake and measure in the kitchen.
*Measure heights of the family.
*Measure lengths of time to complete different tasks at home.
The list of opportunities to engage in maths at home is endless!

The CTK P&F AFL Tipping competition is in full swing, with 31 tipsters taking part in our inaugural event hosted through the AFL website. We are almost at the halfway point of the season and Chris B is leading the way with 64 correct tips from Richard M and Caz L who are following hotly behind on 63 and Meg L on 62. Another 7 tipsters are on 61 and 60 tips, so there isn’t much separating those at the top! There is still a long way to go though.
Thank you to all the families that are supporting this new initiative for the school with some fun prizes for the winners on offer. Watch this space in the coming weeks to see how the friendly competition is shaping up as the season progresses.
Good luck!
The students enjoyed their 'Biological Sciences' unit of work. They learnt all about how animals and plants have evolved adaptations to help them survive in different environments. All students got to design and make an animal of their choice and included several structural and behavioural adaptations, and of course some of them named their animals. They also designed and made habitats for the animals.

This week, we participated in National Simultaneous Storytime, where our students joined over one million children across Australia in reading the same book at the same time. This annual literacy event, held in May, brings together schools, libraries, and communities nationwide to celebrate the joy of reading and promote literacy skills. Students gathered in their classrooms and in the library to listen to and engage with this year's featured book ‘The Truck Cat’, sharing in the excitement of knowing that students from every corner of the country were experiencing the same story at that very moment. The event not only developed important listening and comprehension skills but also reinforced our school's commitment to fostering a love of reading and storytelling in all our students.

As our enrolment numbers continue to grow, we kindly remind you to submit applications for siblings of current students for the upcoming years - Term 3 2026, 2027 and 2028.
To ensure a place for your child, we encourage you to enroll as soon as possible. Spaces fill quickly, and we don't want any families to miss out on securing a spot for their younger children. While sibling enrolments are prioritised, places cannot be guaranteed for late applicants.
Please contact Meri Blake, our enrolment officer for more information or to begin the application process.
Thank you for your continued support.
