Term 2, week 2 2025
Welcome to Term 2. I hope you were able to enjoy a relaxing term break and are re-energised for the term ahead. This term promises many opportunities for continued growth, learning and connection.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to spend the past eight weeks at Christ the King School. It has been a thoroughly rewarding experience, and I have felt warmly welcomed by staff, parents and students throughout my time here.
I leave with great appreciation for the strong sense of faith, collaboration, and care that defines Christ the King. I wish the school every success in the future and look forward to hearing of its continued growth and achievements.
Reception Transition Program Begins
This week we begin our Reception Transition program, a meaningful milestone in welcoming our youngest learners to school. Over the coming weeks, children will take part in a variety of fun and engaging activities designed to help them become familiar with the school environment, daily routines, and new friendships. This important program helps build confidence and a sense of belonging as they prepare to officially start school in July. We are excited to walk alongside these eager learners as they take their first steps on their educational journey.
Catholic Education Week – ‘Shine with Hearts Open’
Next week we celebrate Catholic Education Week, a time to recognise and promote the rich learning experiences and strong values that define Catholic Education across South Australia. The 2025 theme, ‘Shine with Hearts Open,’ highlights the ways our community embraces kindness, respect, learning, service, and leadership. Throughout the week, we will showcase how these values are lived out in our classrooms and beyond, reflecting the spirit and mission of Catholic education. We look forward to celebrating this special week together as a school community.
Thank You – Mother’s Day Celebrations
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible Parents and Friends team for once again dedicating their time and energy to organising our Mother’s Day Stall, coordinating class gifts, and preparing a lovely afternoon tea. Your thoughtful efforts create meaningful opportunities for our students to celebrate and show their appreciation for the special women in their lives.
We extend our warmest wishes to all mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures for a joyful and relaxing Mother’s Day this Sunday — may it be filled with love, gratitude, and special moments.
Welcome back Mr Perry
We welcome Mr Perry back on Monday from his long service leave and holiday. He is excited to return to school and hear about what everyone has been up to over the past 8 weeks.
Warm regards,
Jo Livingstone
Acting Principal
Happy Easter
As a Catholic community, we continue to celebrate the Easter season - a sacred time of joy, hope, and renewal. The Resurrection of Jesus reminds us of God’s great love and the promise of new life. In Scripture, Jesus says:
"I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die."
— John 11:25
May this season inspire us all to walk in faith, show compassion to others, and live out the Gospel message each day. As the Easter season spans 50 days and culminates in the Feast of Pentecost, we will continue to honour this sacred time with a weekly liturgy each Friday in the school hall. These liturgies will be led by our students, and we warmly invite our parent community to join us in prayer and celebration.
Pope Francis
In response to the sad news of the passing of Pope Francis, our students have given thanks to such a special leader. I would like to congratulate the students on the way in which they attended and participated in our liturgy giving thanks for the Holy Father’s life and the way in which he gave hope to the poor and oppressed. We pray for the Cardinals as they begin their duty of selecting a new Pope to guide the Catholic Church into the future.
Confirmation Candidates
Next week, a number of our students will take an important step in their faith journey as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. This is a special time in their lives, as they are strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit and called to live more fully as followers of Christ.
We keep the following students, their families, and their sponsors in our prayers as they prepare for this sacred celebration. May the Holy Spirit guide them, fill them with wisdom and courage, and help them grow in faith, hope, and love.
Walking with Wisdom and Compassion
We sincerely thank our school community for the generous support and fundraising efforts throughout Lent and for Project Compassion. If you haven’t already done so, please return all Project Compassion boxes to the school office so we can finalise the total of our contributions.
In our Catholic journey, true wisdom comes not only from knowing God’s Word but from living it—especially when we choose to walk in someone else’s shoes.
“Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another.” — Romans 12:15–16

PREMIERS READING CHALLENGE
Last week, we launched the Premiers Reading Challenge (PRC) for 2025. This wonderful challenge culminates with an award ceremony in November. Students work through many levels beginning with a signed certificate in the first year through bronze, silver gold medals, champion, legend and Hall of fame by the 7th year. This challenge is embraced by our students, and we consistently have a completion rate in the high 94%
Each student has now received their registration form, and the reading can begin.
Important Points to get us started
Students need to read 12 books - 8 books from the Premier’s Reading Challenge booklist at an appropriate literacy level and 4 books of their own choice. (Reception students can have their books read to them by an adult).
8 books must be from the student’s age set. Students may read from the set above but not below unless by teacher discretion. 4 remaining books can be with or without dots.
Each book is to be recorded on the registration form and signed off by an adult- parent, guardian, teacher, ESO etc.
All forms due no later than Friday 5 September.
Our school library has many 100s of colour coded books for each set level, however books can also be borrowed from family, friends and the public library. You may need to ask for some guidance when visiting your local library. To check if a borrowed book is on the list the PRC offer an online list checker which can be found at the following link.

Anzac Day
During the school holidays, our School Captains, Olivia and Justin, proudly represented Christ the King School at the ANZAC Dawn Service in Brighton. As a gesture of remembrance, they laid a wreath on behalf of our school community, honouring all who have served and died in Australia’s wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping missions. We thank Olivia and Justin for their respectful and thoughtful representation.

Wishing all the special women in our community a wonderful Mother's Day!
Many thanks to our P&F Volunteers for organising the Mother's Day Stall for the students and special thanks to Caz, for the fabulous Afternoon Tea!

As our enrolment numbers continue to grow, we kindly remind you to submit applications for siblings of current students for the upcoming years - Term 3 2026, 2027 and 2028.
To ensure a place for your child, we encourage you to enroll as soon as possible. Spaces fill quickly, and we don't want any families to miss out on securing a spot for their younger children. While sibling enrolments are prioritised, places cannot be guaranteed for late applicants.
Please contact Meri Blake, our enrolment officer for more information or to begin the application process.
Thank you for your continued support.
Dear Families
Thank you very much for a great response to our survey regarding this year’s Sports Day.
There were 60 responses from families! Staff were also asked to provide feedback. As a result, we have received some fantastic feedback and constructive suggestion for improvements to our much-loved event.
This feedback is invaluable, and the suggestions and ideas will help us to come up with a redreamed Sports Day for 2026.
We look forward to sharing some of these ideas as they take shape. Thank again and your feedback has made a real difference.
Many thanks,
Matt Young
