Term 2, week 6 2025
Hello Friends,
I was in Tanunda last week at the annual South Australian Catholic Primary Principals Association (SACPPA) Conference. We heard from many fantastic presenters including,
Dr Matt Iasiello, Martin Heppell, Partner/Facilitator, The Resilience Project, Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor Moira Junge, CEO of the Sleep Health Foundation, Sophie Thomson, Sophie’s Patch and Gardening Australia and Andrea Ball, The Green Gourmet
The title of the conference was “Living Well to Lead”, highlighting the importance of keeping ourselves in good health, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Gratitude, kindness and optimism were key words throughout the 2.5 days. It led me to thinking, how effectively do we teach resilience between home and school? What opportunities do we provide our children to be resilient? And what are examples of things we need to be resilient to? Resilience may be seen as a lifelong skill to be learnt.
After School Playground Use
The playground can be a popular place for community enjoyment and engagement after school. I ask that parents and caregivers use Direct, Active and Continual Supervision of children. Please ensure you have your child in a direct line of sight and I ask that any sand equipment that is used, gets put away please. The other important item to remember is that this is a shared space also used by OSHC. There are footballs and soccer balls being used in this area, so everybody needs to use and exercise caution. Thanks for your support and cooperation in this area. Our school toilets are generally locked at 3:30pm unless Auskick or After School Sports is being held.
School Gates before School and After School
I write to remind everyone that:
- the Dunrobin Rd gate and the Jeffrey Ave gate are opened at 8.20am and closed soon after the bell sounds at 8.45am
- the Walkley Ave gate is closed after the morning bells sounds as well
After School:
- the Dunrobin Rd gate remains closed after school
- Jeffrey Ave gate is opened at 3.00pm and closed soon after the bell sounds at 3.30pm
- The Walkley Ave gate opens at 3.10pm and is latched closed at 3.30pm (remains unlocked for OSCH entry/exit.
Thanks for your cooperation in assisting with student safety.
Hats
We have reached a point in the year where hats are now optional to be worn in the yard. The UV rating has hovered around 2 for the past week. It may be timely for the hats to be sent home and washed. It would be advantageous to send hats back to school when the UV rating is going to be 4 or above.

Happy Birthday!
Today we celebrated the upcoming Feast of Pentecost, also known as the birthday of the Church.
Pentecost marks the moment when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples, filling them with courage and faith to share the Good News with the world. It is on this day that the mission of the Church truly began.
As a school community, we reflect on the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives — guiding, comforting, and inspiring us to live out Jesus’ message of love, peace, and hope.
"They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability." Acts 2:4
May the Spirit continue to guide us as we grow in faith and service to one another.
St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal – Supporting Those in Need
As the colder months settle in, our school is once again supporting the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal, an important initiative that provides warmth, comfort, and hope to those in need during winter.
We are asking our school families to donate generously to help make a difference in the lives of others. Items needed include:
- Non-perishable food (tinned goods, pasta, rice, long-life milk)
- Warm clothing (coats, jumpers, socks, beanies, gloves – clean and in good condition)
- Blankets and bedding
Donations can be placed in the collection boxes located in each classroom or at the front office.
Your support will help bring light and love to those doing it tough this winter. Together, we can live out the Gospel values of compassion and care for others.
Thank you for your generosity

The reception students had a wonderful time learning about indigenous culture during reconciliation week. Using so many colours, the display they created showcases the spirit of our nation and our connection to country.
Last week we were very fortunate that Christina from the RAA came to Christ The King School to present The Street Smart Program to all classes. We learnt important information about respecting the road rules, road signs, seatbelt safety, helmet safety and distractions. We also spent time learning and practising the Stop, Look, Listen and Think strategy.
A great workshop!

Next week is Wellbeing Week – a week of activities with each day will have a different focus:
Tuesday: Emotional Wellbeing and Self-Care
Wednesday: Kindness and Gratitude
Thursday: Confidence and Celebrating Yourself
Friday: Physical Health and Movement
There are activities planned around these focus areas for the students to participate in at recess and lunch. Many thanks to Lucy Knagge (4K) for organising this week!
On Thursday, Christ the King students had the fantastic opportunity to attend Cabra Dominican College’s vibrant production of Shrek Jr. From the moment the lights dimmed, the audience was swept up in a colourful and high-energy performance filled with humour, music, and clever staging.
The students were captivated by the incredible costumes, lively choreography, and bold character performances. Donkey was a clear crowd favourite, with her quick wit and hilarious delivery keeping everyone laughing in their seats. The fairy tale creatures brought wonderful energy to the stage, proudly celebrating their differences in the show-stopping number Let Your Freak Flag Fly.
The production’s sets and props cleverly transformed the stage into swamps, castles, and forests, bringing the story to life in creative and imaginative ways. The catchy songs, dynamic dance routines, and heartfelt moments were beautifully delivered by the talented Cabra students, who impressed us all with their confidence and enthusiasm.
It was a joyful experience for our students to witness live theatre and appreciate the hard work and teamwork that goes into a stage production.
A huge thank you to Cabra Dominican College for their outstanding performance — it was an experience we won’t forget!

As our enrolment numbers continue to grow, we kindly remind you to submit applications for siblings of current students for the upcoming years - Term 3 2026, 2027 and 2028.
To ensure a place for your child, we encourage you to enroll as soon as possible. Spaces fill quickly, and we don't want any families to miss out on securing a spot for their younger children. While sibling enrolments are prioritised, places cannot be guaranteed for late applicants.
Please contact Meri Blake, our enrolment officer for more information or to begin the application process.
Thank you for your continued support.
